It’s Screen Season!

As the weather heats up, window screen season begins! Now is the time to open your doors and windows to let the fresh air in!  Fresh air, yes; insects no! To keep those pesky bugs outside of your home, we recommend that homeowners inspect their window screens and screen doors for tears, holes, bent frames, broken corners, and degradation to the screen fabric. If there is damage to the screening material, the window screen needs repair, and we may be able to re-screen the screens for you. If the damage to the screen is beyond repair (broken corners or bent frames), we can use your original screen to make you a duplicate.

Replacing your window screens isn’t usually at the top of a homeowner’s list.  If they are functioning properly, it’s easy to forget the screens are even there.  When screens start to degrade or are torn by pests, pets, or errant golf balls, they may move up your to-do list.  However, it may be a good idea to move screen replacement up on your to-do list even if they are still intact.

Installing new window screens can be a great way to not only get the most out of your window and door screens but also to enjoy the benefits that come with modern replacement screen choices.  Installing new custom replacement window screens can save you money, improve your home’s look, and provide added comfort.

Window Screen Material Choices

We offer a variety of different screening materials, including:

Ultravue Screen: UltraVue®  –  These replacement window screens are made with the thinnest, vinyl-coated fiberglass screen mesh, ensuring a high level of insect protection and providing enhanced visibility.  UltraVue® screen mesh is Greenguard certified for low emissions. These replacement screens, sometimes referred to as “invisible screens,” are finely woven, charcoal colored mesh with a vinyl coating to ensure durability and to shed water and dirt for maximum visibility even on rainy days. Ideal for windows or low-traffic applications where the focus is on the view.

Tuff Screen: TuffScreen® is a heavy-duty, vinyl-coated polyester insect screening that’s ideal for use in high-traffic areas. Pet-resistant and tear and puncture-resistant, TuffScreen® is stronger than regular insect screening.  This screen mesh is perfect for households with energetic children, anxious pets, and harsh weather conditions.  Three times stronger than traditional insect screen, Tuffscreen® is perfect for doors and windows.

Suntext® Sunscreen: Get enhanced solar protection with SunTex® 80/90 exterior solar screen.  Its shading fabric is made of strong vinyl-coated polyester. SunTex is mildew and fade-resistant and only needs occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Ideal for use as a shading fabric on windows, doors, and porches. Suntex® 80 blocks up to 80% of the sun’s heat, and Suntex® 90 blocks up to 90% of the sun’s heat. Available in the following colors: Black, brown, grey, beige, stucco, and white.

Pet Screen: Phifer PetScreen®, pet-resistant insect screening, is tear and puncture-resistant to prevent damage by dogs and cats. Ideal for use in high-traffic areas. The gauge of the vinyl-coated screening is thicker than that of Tuff screen, and it has a tighter weave, which reduces air flow and visibility.

Fiberglass Screen: Budget-friendly standard fiberglass insect screen is the most frequently used and most affordable screen option for windows and doors. Precision-woven fiberglass screen ensures lasting color, flexibility, and curb appeal. Easily installed, durable, and long-lasting, this screen is the preferred choice among industry leaders. Available in charcoal and grey fiberglass.

Aluminum Wire Screen: Aluminum screening provides the same amount of ventilation and insect protection as the fiberglass screen. While wire screening is more durable when it comes to withstanding the harmful effects of the sun, the wire mesh is more likely to become damaged by pressing against the screen material. Available are charcoal or silver.
