Things to Know About Window Screens
When Sacramento heats up, window screens can help you cool down. They allow you to let fresh air in while keeping ants, flies, and other pesky bugs out. Yet, like other exterior features of your home, it’s not uncommon for window screens to become damaged over time. We recommend that homeowners inspect their window screens and screen doors for tears, holes, bent frames, broken corners, and degradation of the screen fabric. If there is damage to the screening material we can often repair your window screens by simply re-screening them for you. If the damage to the window or door screen is beyond repair (broken corners or bent frames) we can use your original screen to make you a duplicate.
There are many types of window screens you can consider for your home. Here are some things to know about window screens:
Fiberglass Screen: Standard Fiberglass insect screen is the most commonly used and most affordable screen option for windows and doors. Precision woven fiberglass screen ensures lasting color, flexibility, and curb appeal. Easily installed, durable, and long-lasting, this screen is the preferred choice among industry leaders. Available in charcoal and grey fiberglass.
Aluminum Wire Screen: Aluminum screening provides the same amount of ventilation and insect protection as the fiberglass screen. While wire screening is more durable when it comes to withstanding the harmful effects of the sun, the wire mesh is more likely to become damaged by pressing against the screen material. Available in charcoal or silver.
Ultravue® Screen: UltraVue® is an excellent Visibility screen that offers a premium viewing experience. It is designed for 15% greater openness providing 25% better airflow. If you’re looking for screening that will block insects but not the view, UltraVue provides excellent visibility and is ideal for windows or low-traffic applications where the focus is on the view.
Tuff Screen®: TuffScreen® is a heavy-duty, vinyl-coated polyester insect screening that is ideal for use in high-traffic areas. Pet-resistant and tear and puncture resistant, TuffScreen is stronger than regular insect screening.
Pet Screen: Phifer PetScreen®, pet-resistant insect screening, is tear and puncture-resistant to prevent damage by dogs and cats. Ideal for use in high-traffic areas. The gauge of the vinyl coated screening is thicker than Tuff Screen and it has a tighter weave which reduces airflow and visibility.
Suntext® Sunscreen: SunTex® 80/90 exterior solar screen shading fabric is made of strong vinyl-coated polyester. SunTex is mildew and fade resistant and needs only an occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Ideal for use as a shading fabric on windows, doors, and porches. Suntex® 80 blocks up to 80% of the sun’s heat and Suntex® 90 blocks up to 90% of the sun’s heat. Available in the following colors: Black, brown, grey, beige, stucco, and white.
