How to Replace a Vinyl Awning Window Operator

These instructions walk you through how to replace the operator on a Milgard vinyl awning window.

Safety precautions:  Activities in this video are appropriate for individuals with an understanding of how to use simple hand tools.  Remember to wear eye protection and to make sure that pets and small children are not present when performing these activities.

You’ll need a #2 Phillips head screw driver and a new awning window operator.

Begin by opening the awning window about three quarters of the way.  Locate the two plastic arm clips at the base of the sash.  Remove clips from the track guides by pulling towards the operator.  Fully extend the operator arms.  If you have nesting hardware, remove the handle and cover.  Use a #2 phillips screwdriver to remove the operator screws.  Remove the operator by pulling it towards you.  Make sure both arms of the new operator are fully extended.  Install the new operator into the window frame.  Fasten the new operator using the phillips screwdriver and screws.  Be careful not to over torque the screws.  Finish by connecting the operator arm clips to the track guides.  Now you can close the window.
