Choosing the Perfect Shower Style for Your Bathroom

August 14, 2019 by Dick's Rancho Glass

Like in any home renovation project, any changes to the style of your bathroom should be done to best meet your needs and tastes.  Believe it or not a luxurious bathroom can be big or small. It’s all about the features included.  Showers are one of the biggest features in a bathroom, but how to decide which style is right for your home?  Here are a few things to think about when picking out a shower style.

What’s your Budget?

The first thing to decide on in just about any home project is how much you want to spend.  Whether you’re thinking about remodeling your whole bathroom or just re-doing the shower, the amount of money you’re willing to spend will greatly impact which options you’ll have to choose from.  There are several factors that will effect cost including:

  • Shower / Tub type (separate or together)
  • Fixture choices
  • Materials (like tile, stone or glass)
  • Moving any piping

Your Bathroom Layout

You’ll need to consider the layout and amount of floor space you have to work with when picking a shower style.  A walk-in shower is great if you have the space for it, but a corner shower, or a combo shower with a glass door could be more suitable for a smaller bathroom layout.

Types of Showers

After figuring out how much space you have to work with you can choose a type of shower.

Walk-in Shower

Walk-in frameless glass showers can be extremely versatile.  They can be a great option in smaller bathrooms if you don’t need a bathtub.  Walk-in showers are available in straight, angled, and curved designs.  You can build a spacious luxury walk-in frameless glass shower for that spa feel, or if you need to save some space you can opt for a corner or angle type walk-in.  While many of these showers have door, some homeowners opt for a glass divider wall instead.  This can act as a full or partial barrier to reduce any water from leaving the shower area.  You can also choose to build your new walk-in shower with a bench.  Additionally you could expand the longevity and ROI when it comes to selling your home by choosing to build a barrier free shower.

Freestanding Bathtub and Shower Combination

Claw foot or freestanding tubs are a great way to give a bathroom an elegant and vintage feel, but it can be tricky if a shower is needed.  Some people opt for a handheld shower fixture without a mount.  Others Glass - Tub Shower combo frameless Enclosure Skyline12choose to mount the shower head above the tub and enclose it with shower curtains in keeping with the vintage look.

Shower and Tub Combination

While a walk-in can save space in a small bathroom, you’ll miss-out on having a tub.  Bathtub shower combos are some of the most popular among homeowners, especially those with small children.  This combination gives you the best of both worlds and can still look expansive if you opt for frameless or semi-frameless glass shower doors.

A corner shower may be a great option if space is in short supply in your bathroom.  Sometimes corners of bathrooms go unused, so adding a shower is the best way to make the most out of the space.  This type of small walk-in style shower can fit in almost any size bathroom with a corner to spare.  They can often be smaller than other styles of shower, but can be unique.

Choose your Features

Features for showers can be heavily customized.  You can choose to have high-end brass handles, multiple shower heads, shower heads with multiple stream features, and even electronic controls.  If you’re opting for an accessible shower, it’s a good idea to consider adding grab bars and seating in your shower.  When choosing features for your new shower in addition to focusing on the aesthetic, try to keep a balance between features you want and ones you absolutely need.

When remodeling a bathroom you’ll have many choices to make.  Your shower should be high on your list of considerations in the investment you’ll be making.  Take into account the space you have, the amount you want to spend, and the wants needs of you family to find the best style shower for your home.

Don’t settle for an outdated, blah, or boring bathroom.  Dick’s Rancho Glass can install a beautiful and trendy glass shower in your new bathroom oasis.  Create a spa like aesthetic, a larger room feel, or a fresh new look.
