HOW TO REPLACE YOUR MILGARD ULTRA™ SERIES SASH LOCK

This video will show you how to properly replace the Ultra Series Sash Lock on your Milgard® window.

These instructions will guide you through how to replace the sash lock on your Milgard Ultra™ Series window. The sash lock is located on the operable portion of the window.

Safety Note:  This activity is appropriate for individuals with an understanding of how to use simple hand tools. Remember to wear eye protection and to make sure that pets and small children are not present when performing these activities.

Materials Needed:

  • Putty knife
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • New sash lock

1. The sashes of Ultra Series double-hung windows can tilt inward. Locate the two sash tilt buttons on the lower sash, press both buttons and lower the sash towards you to open.

2. Remove top thumb lock by using a flat putty knife to pry it up and away from the sash.

3. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, locate and remove the screws from interior operator lock.

4. Once the screws are taken out, remove the old sash lock from the panel.

5. Locate the lock gear on the new sash lock.

6. Locate the nylon tension strap on the top of the window sash in the aluminum casing.

7. Install the new sash lock by inserting it into the sash, making sure the nylon tension strap fits into the slot on the lock operator gear.

8. Reinstall the screws.

9. Place the thumb lock on operator with the handle turned to the right.

10. Press the thumb lock onto the operator

11. Operate the lock to make sure the side lock guides work.

12. Finish by closing the window sash.
