HOW TO CLEAN AND LUBRICATE A SLIDING DOOR

In this video, learn the best way to clean and lubricate a Milgard® sliding patio door. The cleaning and lubrication process is quick and easy to complete. Routine maintenance is required to keep your sliding door operating as smoothly.

Materials Required:

• Dry/wet vacuum cleaner

 • Non-Abrasive household cleaner/de-greaser

 • Cleaning rags

 • Steel wool

• Vinyl protectant

• Safety glasses and gloves

Safety Precautions: This activity is appropriate for individuals with an understanding of how to use simple hand tools. Remember to wear eye protection and to make sure that pets and small children are not present when performing these activities.

Instructions:

1. Close your sliding glass door. Vacuum the exposed track area. Dirt, sand, bugs, and pet hair are the most common debris that lead to wear of the rollers and track. After vacuuming this track area thoroughly, open the door. Repeat the vacuuming process on the other side of the track.

2. With the door open, spray the exposed track with a household cleaner/de-greaser. Wipe the track thoroughly to remove any dirt and build-up debris. Close the door panel and repeat the cleaning of the other side of the track.

3. Thoroughly inspect the entire round portion of the track surface where the roller actually comes in contact. Any build-up debris or rough spots can be smoothed with steel wool. If severe wear and/or damage is present, consider replacing the track.

4. Lubricate track and weatherstrip with vinyl protectant to enhance the sliding capability.

5. Open and close your Milgard sliding door several times to ensure smooth operation.
